Other might be able to comment more on the award availability between Asia and Europe/North America. I usually redeem J awards between SIN and Japan. Just did 4 roundtrip redemption last month on JL. Very good value IMO.

I was at SAN last year, and did SAN-SMF-SAN and SAN-SJC-SAN in a day. The next day I did another run of SAN-SMF-SAN prior to my flight back to SIN. That gave me 6 segments.
