Interesting story and warning to post. My daughter had friends traveling for leisure to NZ in January from ORD. They applied online for an eta, not on the app, and were approved and printed out the approval. When they got to the airport, while checking in, they were told that eta of one of the couple was revoked because although a US citizen he had previously lived and worked in NZ and thus had applied for the wrong entrance document. The airport staff tried to assist, but were unable to help. So they returned home and since it was evening in the states called NZ immigration who told them that this situation is happening quite a bit and it would take a week to fix it. I know that part seems not to make sense given that the eta process is almost instant, but these are knowledgeable travelers who thought they were prepared. Air NZ was willing to change flights but flights in economy were over 10K so they cancelled the trip and are rescheduling for later in the year. There was no message that his visa was revoked, and it seems like there is no criteria within the online application to send the applicant down the right path.
Has anyone else heard anything like this?
