To be clear, the suggestion was to get AA (American AAdvantage) status through credit card spend with an American co-branded credit card. There is no way to use credit card spend to earn Alaska status (while, except using a credit card to buy flights on Alaska and qualifying partners!) and no way to convert miles from any partner into Alaska elite-qualifying miles, but American now makes it very easy with their new Loyalty Point scheme (I believe you can earn Executive Platinum/oneworld Emerald status without stepping foot on any airplane at all). There are AAdvantage co-branded cards in many more countries than the US. I know nothing about them, but that might be another route to oneworld status (though you can't leverage SQ flights).

I don't think this meets your parameters, but just want to be sure the suggestion is clear.
