BA domestic on VS ticket is doable, have done it once before.

I'd stay clear of buying your own ticket on BA for refund from VS as even if that pans out you are into seperate ticket issues.

Alternatively if they are still flying to Orlando then maybe they could arrange a Delta flight up, or something but I guess you hit reward problem there too.
