I was wondering 1) how common is something like this? And 2) doesn't JetBlue know the weight of its fully loaded planes? It can't be economically efficient to add a stop in another country every time your plane is full.
It was JetBlue 1794 on Feb 24. An Airbus A321neo.
Wind direction necessitated use of a more restrictive runway - the one facing the mountains. That's what the pilot meant. When the wind is from the opposite (and more typical) direction, non-stop is no issue.
