Apparently the entire years allottment of 800 vehicles was presold even before they arrived - so I guess that is a success. Also, there is a long waiting list to get one.

I do believe that the smart will remain a niche vehicle here though. I would not want to take a long trip in one, but for short in city trips, perhaps.
