Jetblue adds stop on direct flight because it’s too heavy??
Hi! A few days ago my family was leaving from Costa Rica (SJO) on a direct flight to JFK on JetBlue.
Before takeoff, the captain came on the intercom and said that the plane was too heavy to make it over the mountains in Costa Rica on takeoff because the plane was full, so they'd unload fuel and then fly to Jamaica, refuel there, then fly to JFK.
I was wondering 1) how common is something like this? And 2) doesn't JetBlue know the weight of its fully loaded planes? It can't be economically efficient to add a stop in another country every time your plane is full.
It was JetBlue 1794 on Feb 24. An Airbus A321neo.
