If that’s your experience (*), it probably makes no sense to buy overpriced tickets via the Chase portal. Perhaps consider transferring points to a travel partner (airline) and see what sorts of values you can get that way.

(*) I have read similar reports, but others have also reported seeing the same fares as on the airline website. No personal experience; I buy directly from the airline in almost all cases.
