For the reasons you've just stated I try to avoid ORD in the winter. Although the nearby Doubletree hotel is quite nice, I would have preferred to have been at my destination rather than being a guest of AA there several times in the past. If DFW is an option I'll usually take it. Reverse this at other times of the year when DFW is plagued by weather.

Unfortunately sometimes you just have to take a chance. I will not be taking my own advice for an international connection in February.
