I don't mind mass transit as long as it's #1) Clean/safe (an issue primarily in the USA), #2) Makes sense time-wise. For example, at my home base, Google says it will take 2 hrs, 45 minutes to take the city bus from my home to the airport. For reference, it's a 20 minute drive. Definitely doesn't make sense there. At my other homes, there aren't any available mass transit options available, although they're generally <10 minutes away from the nearest airport. I'm only 1.5 miles from the airport at my current location.

Abroad, I've taken trains many times and really like when train stations are integrated into airports.
