You might find this thread specific to Langkawi helpful:

Langkawi choices

Many years ago, we stayed at the Andaman (burned out in 2021) which was adjacent to the Datai. We had a couple meals at the Datai. This part of the island is heavily forested and is rain forest. We had a rental car and drove throughout the island. Once you left this part of the island, it was more typically sunny island resorts. Personally, I enjoyed the remoteness that was offered in the rain forest. The beach was beautiful and I liked the hotels being nestled amidst the trees. Caution: keep the door to your suite closed. There are monkeys in the trees that have their eyes on your fruit bowls. If we go back on this trip, it's likely we won't stay in that area simply to experience a different area on the island.

I learned while on the island that it is only 3 hours by ferry from Penang.
