Before I had elite status I always enjoyed that if you played the system right on Alaska you could get exit row seats for no extra cost (by changing your seat at the start of the elite upgrade windows when elites got moved out of exit row to first class). And now that my status dropped back down to dirt, I miss this! They wanted $59 for it on a transcon. At least it makes me feel better about the value of this mileage run

And I kind of agree it seems weird to monetize a seat that has extra room because it's an emergency egress. If someone has paid the extra money for it, they're going to feel entitled to sit their, regardless of their abilities to assist in the event of an emergency. I liked the tradeoff, of you get free extra leg room for being willing to assist with the door
