I have not flown LH in quite a while so am not especially familiar with what options are available to me on an involuntary schedule change. I have been on KL/AF pretty much for the past 12 months (with only one LH trip) and any little schedule change allowed me to rebook onto flights on different days and times if I said they worked better for me (very easy!).
In any case, I received an email today with a schedule change for a flight in two months in P class. It is FRA-YYZ-YQR. The problem is that the YYZ-YQR flight on AC is cancelled and they rebooked me onto one that departs 8 hours before I arrive in YYZ. Obviously, that will not work. I expect that I am ok to request the routing that will get me home on the same day, which is FRA-YVR-YQR. Otherwise, I will have to be rebooked onto the day following an overnight in Toronto if they insist on original routing, which I would rather not do.
What I wonder about is that on my outbound I am booked onto YQR-YYZ-FRA on a poor schedule (5 a.m. departure with an 8-hour layover in YYZ). It was, at time of booking, the only YQR-YYZ flight that would allow a connection to FRA so that was what I booked. AC has added a 10 a.m. departure that gives a much nicer 3h 15 min layover in YYZ. Will LH entertain changing me to that flight while I am asking for the inbound to be fixed? My gut says no, but as mentioned above KL/AF were incredibly easy about such things, so worth seeing what is the norm with LH before I call. All domestic legs are LH codeshares on AC.
I am connecting onto FRA-TFS, so it would be nice to shorten the length of the trip a little--if the 10 a.m. flight had existed at time of booking I would certainly have booked it.
Thanks for your thoughts!
