I completely agree, same with agents not knowing things like SDC/SDS rules, etc.

In this case, OP, you'll be fine if everything is on time - baggage will be checked all the way through and even if you have to go over to TBIT, there's a shuttle airside that will get you there so that you can avoid having to re-clear security. I don't believe the LAX-SYD flight normally leaves from TBIT (it looks like T3), but it won't add much more than 15-20 minutes to your journey time overall.
