FWIW I eventually managed to get through to a human in the chat, they got the price down to within $1usd of the advertised fare. But their pricing of the flights throughout the day was still way different to what was advertised on their website.

So if you find yourself in the same position, change flights with a human via chat, as the app or website will always show you higher fares when changing dates.
