a few return options - all look like fun times:

MLE-BOM (5hr layover) - DEL (6 hrs) - YVR (11 hrs)....total: 47 hours
154 in business

MLE-BOM-SIN-SFO 185k in bus at 39 hours

the SFO-IST-MLE with $ is starting to look better......
If you're contemplating a miles redemption, how important is it to you to stay on Star Alliance carriers?

You can pick up an easy 60K AA miles with this Barclays credit-card offer (would probably take about two months from when your application is approved for the miles to hit your AAdvantage account):

AAdvantage charges 50K miles for an Economy Class ticket between OGG and MLE. Routings seem to be on AS and QR. Here's an outbound example:

And here's a return option:

Have no idea if either of those dates works for you, or if those redemption options will be available two months from now.

AA periodically runs sales on its miles too, but one must have had an AAdvantage account open for something like 30 days in order to buy miles on sale.

Of course, it's possible to use miles from one program in one direction, and miles from a different program in the other direction.
