Two hour layover on the way there is plenty of time and you don't need to get your bags until SYD.

If that's your layover on the return it's a little bit more a challenge though doable (if you have bags and/or don't have GE it could be tight if delayed).

You can always change to the earlier JFK - LAX flight as well if there are same day IRROPs / delays
