More recently than that, I stayed there as well I first booked an entry level room, took one look at it on check-in to discover what literally looked like a worn out Motel 6. I went straight back to the front desk and asked if additional money could fix the room assignment. The result was amazing. I think Obscure2k likely started with one of the good rooms, and anyone staying there should too.

In terms of a beach resort, also on the same trip, I spent a couple of nights at the private island resort of Pangkor Laut. Assuming it's been properly maintained since, it would definitely qualify as a luxury resort.
