Practically speaking this is a brutal transfer unless you are looking to intentionally schedule a long layover in LA.
Echo others that you should consider just buying a separate ticket from LAX. May cost less than the out-of-pocket transportation and hotel in LA.
If it is a MileSAAver award (for however long those last) you can see if a seat opens from LAX/LGB/SNA/BUR, all of which are better options if needed, and changes would be permitted.
If you did want to make this work...and you didn't want to rent a car or take an expensive uber, public transportation *might* be possible (and a very long journey) depending on the times. Adding that as an option!
Are you sure the layover is >24 hours? I thought AA awards did not allow this.
