I can somewhat understand the suspicious reaction of the flight attendant. Where this went over the top is the post-flight questioning (and request for "detention") of the OP. That's simply unacceptable when nothing actually happened.
I also agree that pursuing the good intentions three times (or even twice) when a child is involved is simply inviting nonsensical reactions from any and all involved.
