I am sorry to hear about this, it sounds like it was unexpected. You are doing the right thing by checking here first, generally, but as it happens this is a situation where BAH will be more useful than this forum. So I would indeed have an open discussion with them. Hopefully you also have travel insurance too. Date changed or deferral may be easier to do here.
