Girlfriend and I are currently in SIN waiting to board AF257 with a 2-3-2 config. Intially was supposed to fly ex-BKK with the new suite (when I booked last may) and they downgraded the cabin to the NEV4. Called airfrance Platinum service line like 4 times to have a change they refused to do it for free. so we changed for a SIN departure (for which we indeed paid for this change) as almost all the flights have the BEST J seat with the F cabin. 2 weeks ago, they downgraded the AF257 flight to old NEV4 configuration, but just for the day we are booked (today, Feb 21st 2023). Of course tried my luck with AF PSL but same thing, you are booked in business, and they still consider this is a business class seat.
What annoys me is that when I booked this ticket; the flight was marketed as "enclosed busness class" suite. Later on, they decided to stop mentioning this but it was after I booked.
It's like you book a room at the 5* Sofitel with breakfast, and you get a room at the 3* Ibis hotel instead with a doggybag for breakfast. Sure you still get a room with a bed, a shower and a meal, but this is not exactly what you have booked initially.
A few agents I spoke with also said that nothing could be done prior to the flight, only after the flight a complaint should be sent. I will make sure to do that. Just at the moment I restarted to love AF again, they cr@pped the bed...
On another topic, the Marhaba lounge AF is using in SIN is just shameful. There are so many good lounges in SIN, but they must have chosen the cheapest one. The QF First lounge where we were a week ago was certainly a completely different experience !
I am sad for you , especially after you took the option for a rerouting .

That been said we all know that AF has still several lie-flat J cabins which still operate randomly on various destinations (a list has been shared on these forums), notably on Asian destinations.
As largely discussed, there are regularly short term config changes and as a consequence we cannot rely on the exact configuration we’ll fly.
As long as all birds are not retro-fitted , it stills the Russian roulette.
With all my respect, PAX take their own risk flying on these destinations, well known for short term changes in favor of NEV4 configuration.
There are very good alternatives with TG and SQ (+ CX since 3 months) who offer great service and attractive prices .
Personally, even if I am quite loyal towards AF (I’m PFL ULTI), I nearly only use Asian carriers actually because of this J cabin problematic (+ astronomic prices for J and P cabin)
