No, but some people think that comments such as
"I agree. This is profiteering in a way that rubs me the wrong way. 51 lbs is ridiculously little for an international flight and then charging 1.5% of the full fare for 2.2 lbs is ridiculous. "
Particularly odd given that routes there are lots of international routes ( pretty much those other than to/from North America ) to follow the weight system. Given that most of the world seem to be able to manage to travel with that level of luggage allowance, how can it be ridiculously little.
Ridiculously little are allowance such as 15Kg offered by certain carriers
Oh, and in response to hfly, I do know what church's shoes weigh given that I wear them myself.

I think 51 lbs is ridiculously little still.
All my flights are to/from the US (at some point of my journey)... so I guess I want to impose my less-than-Spartan standards on the world. ;-)
If the 51 lbs (basically one standard full suitcase) standard was held up in the Middle East, South Asia or Far East, there would be quite significant changes in the the carrier choice of repeat leisure/work-related travellers.
