So it's been a long time since we've flown to China to see in-laws/grandparents.

Last time we flew was pre COVID in 2018, I remember we had issues getting our boarding passes and we had to go to the check in desk at t5. They said they needed to verify our China visas (which I get).

It's been so long now that I can't remember if that also stops you from doing the seat selection 24hrs beforehand (as you can't do online check in)

Does anyone know if you can still check in online but you just can't get the boarding passes or is it that you can't check in online and therefore can't do seat selection until you get to the airport.

We got some time as will be flying in July but just wanted to see if anyone knew in advance. Thanks!
