There are two name fields printed on US passports, and so middle names generally are included under the same field entry as that for the given/first name on the passports of US citizens. So the passport of say a “William Jefferson Clinton” would have “Clinton” under the family/surname while “William Jefferson” will be printed together like that for the given/first name field entry.
My bad. Of course you're both right.
When I wrote that, I only looked at my passport
application, not the actual passport. On the application, there are fields for Last, First, and Middle names, and I used all three. However, the passport only has Surname and Given Names fields; the First and Middle names are both printed in the Given Names field.
The same is true for the NEXUS/GE application vs the card. The application has fields for Surname/last name (required), Given name (required), and Middle name (optional). It has all three fields for the account profile, passport info, and DL info. But the NEXUS/GE card combines the Given/first name and Middle name fields into a single Given Name field.
I put my middle name in the Middle Name field on the passport and NEXUS applications, I don't use my middle name when booking tickets, and I've gotten PreCheck every time.
Sorry for the confusion!
