You get one extra checked baggage, but watch out with other airlines if flying in deeply discounted Y (the likes of LH).
*A alliance has unfortunately benefits, that the airlines doesn't honour and you seriously have to be a FT'er to know these things.
I am sure it wasn't the idea behind making a alliance for seamless travel across airlines that you have to be a travel nerd.
Skyteam gets it right though in system vide benefit recognition.
