I don't know if there is anyplace in or near EWR that lends itself to this, but it might be interesting to make a point of spending some time prior to the flight watching other planes landing and taking off, tarmac operations etc. to give them a sense of the scale of airport and airplane operations. We're spoiled for choice in that regard at my home airport (DCA), both from inside the terminal but also in a great little park nearby the airport where you can watch takeoffs and landings at close range.
