Rental Location Failure
I had a reservation at GSO to pick up yesterday (Feb 19) at 8:00am, when the counter was scheduled to open. On arrival at 8:00am, the agent informed me they had no available cars at all, not even waiting for other customers or from the combined Budget operation at that location. They had no manager on duty and no idea when cars would be available. I went over to Hertz, rented a car for twice the cost of my reserved rate. I called the PC line and the agent said they would reimburse me the difference in the two base rates, but not other taxes & fees. That will be a reimbursement of about $23.00 (vs $44 difference with the taxes & fees).
Is that the appropriate resolution for not having a car available? On the Avis Web Site, under PC benefits, it says, "Guaranteed car up to a full size with a confirmed 24 hour advanced reservation." If this were a hotel walking you to another location, you'd get a full reimbursement plus an additional penalty payment.
