Holiday Inn Frankfurt Alte Oper

What is your Priority Club status?
Ambassador Diamond

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general yes.

Stayed there over the weekend. The hotel was quite competitively priced for this weekend (read only 10 EUR more than the CP in Niederrad).

I booked a Standard Room on an advanced purchase rate and was upgraded to a Premium Room the day before my arrival as visible in the app.

My room was located on the top floor (7th floor). Right next to the entrance was the bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Storage space next to the sink was good. Hairdryer was wall mounted, which is rare these days. Mirror was not heated. A bathrobe and slipper for two guests were available.

The bathroom door was also the sliding door for the closet. Iron and ironing board and safe were placed in the closet.

The room had a large bed with two bedside tables. The reading lamp on one side was a bit difficult to reach. Armchair with lamp in front of the windows, which could be opened.

Desk with two outlets opposite the bed. Nespresso (pad) machine was placed there as well.

Minibar with non-alcoholic drink and a KitKat snack is free of charge in the Premium Room. Was restocked during my stay during housekeeping and also the Nespresso pad were restocked. In addition to the Nespresso Machine there is also a kettle.

Mattress was okay. Quite firm which I like

A small fitness center is available in the basement. Breakfast is served from 06:30 to 10:00 on weekday and till 11:00 on weekends.

The lobby is medium sized (or larger for a Holiday Inn). There is a PC terminal next to the entrance. The check in desk are on the right side.

Breakfast is buffet with hot and cold items. Rösti, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, grilled mushroom and tomatoes were available. Also pancakes and oatmeal. Cheese, black forest ham, salami, salmon were available as cold items. Fruit salad, sliced and cut melons and pineapples and cereals were on offer. I found the selection on bread, rolls, pastries and pretzel quite extensive. Orange, apple and tomato juices were also on offer.

Coffee and tea were self service.

Quality and quantity were good, the items were cleared frequently. Staff was attentive, especially on the first morning.

Check In was quick with not waiting time on a Friday afternoon at 15:00. Four staff meant not waiting time. Status was recognized and the upgrade was confirmed once again.

Check out was fast and friendly as well. A late check out till 14:00 was given without need to push for it on the morning of the last day.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard and received Premium Room overlooking Francois Mitterrand Platz on the top floor

How are the rooms?
The hotel is not that old and the rooms show a little bit of wear, but nothing serious and you have to search for it.

The real desk was nice to have. Internet speed was okay. You have to sign in and there is a fee of 15 EUR mentioned. It is taken from the folio during check out.

Water pressure of the shower was good. A glass door which really closes and thus no flooding of the bathroom. A big mirror was also available. Shower gel, conditioner, shampoo and lotion were wall mounted (Dove).

The room had blinds which really darkens the room. Windows could be opened, but there is some street noise.

The advanced rate was 88 EUR / night.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Rooms are of good size with real desk
Good connection to public transport
Welcome Letter in room along with a small packet or pretzels
Windows could be opened
Staff is friendly and helpful

Neutral
Location close to red light district is not liked by everybody, I know Frankfurt and this area and okay with it.
keycard needed for power and room

Bad
no weights / body machines in the gym; gym has not window
Lack of USB Ports

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good. The rooms are of a good size. Main Station and Taunusanlage Station is a five minutes walk away. Staff is friendly. Room is well maintained and upgrade to Premium Nice was nice. Rates are not often below 100 EUR, in so far this was a good rate in a nice hotel close to the main pedestrian zone (Fressgass / Zeil)
