When I flew to ARN in November I received a text a few hours before setting off saying the flight had been delayed about 2 hours. Relaxed a little, thought about setting off a bit later but decided against it. Just about to get in the car to set off to Heathrow and the delay disappears and it's back on track again. So, yes, the problem can get rectified.
