Cheapest does not always mean the best or most convenient. By SQ I used to fly directly from Christchurch to Singapore and have a 8-14 hours stopover for rest and recreation. Then flight to Moscow and arrive there in the morning. My connecting short domestic flight to my home city departed about 2 hours later, from the same airport. It was a smooth and easy travel.
