IIRC, the text normally also tells you to check in at normal times nonetheless. If it is from London, there is always a possibility of the delay being shortened. If it is at an outstation where the plane is still many hours away, there will be no possibility of the flight leaving significantly earlier. However, even then, the staff at the airport may close check-in at normal times and you should therefore be there if you have baggage to drop.
