I have a leisure code through my employer that can get a standard King room in June for about $550USD, breakfast inclusive. We're first time visitors to Sydney, with no idea if/when we will be back. At that price point, is this property worth it over, say, the Four Seasons at $400-ish USD on an FHR or Virtuoso rate? Or, for that matter, is it better to pay for a nicer room at the Regency and bypass this hotel completely? Points at 35k/night seem like a poor decision given the cash rate at my disposal.
The location of the PH is intriguing, and it would be nice to get some Hyatt stay credit. Those are the two things steering me towards this place, but I would be curious to get input from folks who are more familiar with the hotel scene in Sydney.
For context, the only other PH we have visited is the Mendoza location... and that was fine but it reminded me a lot of a dated Sheraton-esque hotel that was slightly better taken care of.
If you haven't experienced the previous standard of service, I would probably say it's well worth the money as an experience, especially for your first trip to Sydney. The service is still better then many other 5 star hotels, and ahead of the Hyatt Regency IMO. The rooms at PH have no comparison to the Regency which are tiny. I'd much rather be in a PH Sydney Opera View room then a so called standard suite at the HR.
If you stay during June, you may hit
Vivid though - which is a nice walk around but may mean the view rooms are booked out. You will still see the view during breakfast and at the pool. Otherwise the hotel is a little far from the main part of the CBD, but it's walkable or otherwise you can take the light rail. The property is close to Opera House, Circular Quay and Botanic Gardens so it will make for a very pleasant stay.
