Well I can't confirm the earning was correct but I my boarding passes showed Sapphire and I got lounge access which is what I was concerned with. The seat selection also showed no charge for any seat, though that didn't end up being useful. So the twitter agent's action accomplished what I was looking for
Edit: Well well well.... I not only earned for this flight -- I actually earned for a surprising fare class. I had taken a in-app offer to upgrade to PY and I earned BA Avios and tier points corresponding to a W Fare. Fascinating.
