There is something going on with AA's JFK-DEL flights, which are 292/293.
When my parents were flying AA 292 on 2/1, it got diverted to LHR due to a mechanical issue. AA booked hotels for everyone, but that took several hours. They rebooked everyone. Then suddenly, my parents received a phone call that they fixed the plane. When the flight continued to DEL, I couldn't track the fight. AA reservations couldn't figure out where the plane was either. Luckily, the very helpful people of FlyerTalk figured it out.
For your reference, here is my thread on it:

That happened in LHR for my parents. They couldn't use the AA 292 flight number for LHR-DEL which is why they flew it as a positioning flight. When the airline realized this, it took 4 hours to actually get all the paperwork updated to fly the flight.
They wound up flying it as a positioning flight, so it didn't have a flight number. Even the staff at DEL were surprised that the plane landed with passengers.
JFK-DEL seems to be a cursed flight, here is another recent thread:
203 from Del to JFK canceled 2/7
293 DEL-JFK was cancelled on 2/7. 2/11, 2/16, 2/19. On 2/15, the flight got diverted to BGR and arrived to JFK 4 hours late. On other days, the flight often arrives 45 minutes late despite early departure.
I have no idea how AA is accommodating these passengers. Based on Twitter, not so well:

If you have a connecting flight out of JFK for your return, call reservations to extend it. Maybe even consider demanding reservations to put you on a different airline on the way back. It will be tough to get an AAgent who would do such an accommodation, but it might be worth a shot.
While I love that AA flies to DEL, I really think AA needs to end this route (my armchair CEO opinion). They are just not able to handle it without Russian airspace. If AA wants to keep it, they should consider it as a 5th freedom route, such as JFK-BHX-DEL.
