Regarding the issue of these "red eye" flights and abbreviated meal service.
On balance, I am not as forgiving as these who view it to be about "bedtime".
The fares are the same.
Passengers have a bewildering range of "time zones" in their head for many travel related reasons, excluding other causes of insomnia such as anxiety etc etc. Some adjust their time zones to the destination (as I do) and choose to stay awake longer (eg on SQ) till European bedtime.
A good airline offers the F caviar service (or equivalent luxury ingredients that differentiate J from F) and an approximation of the lunch and dinner menus AS A CHOICE, without making the "supper" menu feel like a downgrade at these astronomical fares, particularly in 2023
SQ came under a lot of criticism when they tried this on their flights to Europe late at night pre-pandemic and I have noticed that the caviar service has been re-instated (eg FRA/ZRH) on a number of these "supper" flights (Ovaltine and hot chocolate with Walkers shortbread would be the ultimate cost saving measure &#128514
ANA's "red eye" menu is dramatically different to their lunch/dinner menus.
A compromise would be fair.
Or they hire English nannies to read bedtime stories (choice of story to be available pre-flight on an equivalent of the "Book the Cook" menu!), followed by an in-seat head and neck massage and Aesop aromatherapy sleep aids with a pillow menu, for red eye flights, to compensate for the unfairness, which, in the end, is what we are reacting to.
