I believe it will last for longer than the foreseeable future (understanding that doesn't quite make sense). Hong Kong will never return to what it was. It isn't just the politics, the times have changed such that even if the politics were somehow miraculously reversed, Hong Kong will never be what it was. [Unfortunately, I don't think it is just Hong Kong. I think that travel will change a lot in the next few years. I just spent two weeks in India, somewhere I always wanted to visit. It was still a great trip, but, in the back of my mind, I saw the entire world as homogenizing - there are still sites, and there are still cultural differences, but more people speak English, the consumer products (from clothes to food to vehicles) are more similar, etc.]
P.S. - I am speaking from the perspective of someone over the age of 60, who used to visit Hong Kong annually for several years before the turnover. I think that Corona simply accelerated the decline. When they towed away Jumbo I pretty much gave up.
