Yes, AA needs to attach the ticket, QR cannot do this. Even after they attach, make sure to carry a physical printout of the infant's ticket (the one with the barcode on the top-right with, "Itinerary Printing Office." I had an instance where at check-in it was not showing attached and the airline had to refer to my physical printout, call some office and get it attached.
I don't know how the AA system works but for QR, the online interface never shows that the mother is flying with an infant. It is present in QR's nackend system but I cannot see it in the frontend.
I can not say that it is a win. Yes, I called to AA, they attached my ticket to infant's ticket. I also got "Itinerary Printing Office" ticket, so Infant has its own ticket which starts with 157... Anyway AA was not sure that everything is fine and asked me to go to airport and check everything with Qatar. I called to Qatar and gave them my nr and asked them what do they see (I did it because AA somehow added an Infant to me and not to Mom, however Qatar issued ticket to Mom). Anyway as soon as agent saw Infant ticket + AA awrd with different nr, like AA has 001 and QR has 157, he told it is like "breaking rules and laws", he was sure that I can not go through check in process with this type of ticket with a child.
Theoretically I understand that everything depends from Airport Team: in my hand I have Ticket for me/ my wife and infant. Why we can not check in. However later I have back ticket from DPS with the same issue, it would be crazy if we stuck there (too high prices to get back to Europe). Spent weeks to get this ticket and now not sure if I could go or return, I would say QR hates children. Will try to "catch" new tickets with QR avios and only this way I can get tickets with 157... and oly then I can buy new tickets for an infant.
