Same thing is happening to me. Two weeks ago, I called in and upgraded 2 flights with mile + copay and the requests still say "requested" but the miles + copay have been deducted from my account AND a new ticket has been reissued as I received a new confirmation email with the new ticket number and correct "C" fare. I've also checked the receipt look up with the new ticket number and it also shows "C".
I did DM AA on Twitter and they said my upgrade was confirmed and everything on my reservation looked fine. I've also been able to order meals and select seats so I'm just wondering if it's a display issue on the site/app.
I also vaguely remember this happening about a year ago when I burned a SWU on a BOS-LAX trascon (it was expiring) and it said requested the entire time as well and everything worked out fine. *shrug*
I just reconfirmed with Twitter AA and also sent them a screenshot of the upgrade showing requested (tried calling EXP desk and gave up after 30min) here's their response:
The screenshot is a bit of a mystery as our systems show the upgrade is complete and reticketed for all flights. Rest easy knowing the ability to select seats and a meal selection is a good sign all is well.
