Is this a possible scenario?
  1. Waitlist a J seat, ANA points are now stuck in that
  2. Get a backup ticket on the same flight with refundable currency in economy (such as United miles)
  3. Waitlist miraculously clears, so I cancel my other ticket, OR
  4. Waitlist doesn’t clear, and ANA releases my points and I have my UA-purchased award economy seat on the same flight

Will having another ticket in my name on the same flight, from a different partner, affect my waitlist?

And just to confirm: folks are SURE that waitlist is the same pool as close in (2 week) award releases? There have been a LOT of open close in J seats lately.
