Taking a look at some other CX routes, JFK, BOS and YYZ are all flying through Russian airspace, but indeed none of their European flights are.
Perhaps the North American routes are being done out of necessity, to avoid fuel stops.

Will the flights get close to Ukraine or the conflict zone? Last I checked, Eastern and Northeast Russia is relatively calm.
