In 2021 I cancelled a AA flight that a AA EXP friend put a normal SWU on, and when I tried to use the flight credit in 2022 the website forced me to call Reservations due to the attached SWU and the agent was able to apply the SWU forward to the new itinerary even though it was from the previous year. So it might still work. But I would go in with the expectation that the SWU is gone.
