Update:

I am being told now that both flights have been canceled by United, that I need to rebook both and there is ZERO availability for our dates and they refuse to remedy the situation.

We broke down last night and purchased cash fares, hopefully I can just get my points back from this cluster, even though they'll be trapped at TK. Maybe I'll use them for less important bookings.
