Abroad, I'll ask the FD out of courtesy and would be open to any reasonable requests if, for whatever reason, the property simply couldn't honor the late checkout. In the States? I don't even ask and stay in my room. If they call me, my reply is simply, "I'm checking out by 4 pm, what's the problem?" If I get bothered by housekeeping, well, there goes the tip. In the post pandemic world, it's pure tit-for-tat with domestic Hyatts.
