just wanted to share that I discovered that while (as previously discussed) there are many terminals in restaurants and other shops that have the Apple Pay logo/sticker yet fail to actually work when the staff selects Apple Pay as the payment method - oddly enough it will actually work if they select “credit card” as the payment method and then you place your phone/watch on the terminal. Have verified this at 7 or 8 places so far so I assume it has to do with the backend system used.

has come in handy a few times when I rush out of ther house and don’t have my physical CSR or Amexgold on me and want to pay at a restaurant, or if somewhere that wouldn’t otherwise offer any spend bonus can applepay with the Apple Card for 2% back (verified that it does process as an Apple Pay transaction which triggers the latter).
