This seems to be a problem on the customer side. the AA representative will have looked at your business level with the company and made a decision based on your value to the company, if you met the threshold , you would have been accepted ; since you didn't meet the threshold you were refused. unless there was a change to your spending patterns, then there is no reason whjy the multiple attempts would have led to a different outcome.
The agent was doing his job - that doesn't make someone a jerk. iperhaps you are not as commercially important to AA as you think that you are
Regardless, it wouldn't be making sense to use one airline where another airline better serves your destination
