ID never leaves my hand when checking in to a hotel in the US and it's not an ID that has my address on it anyway.

My Global Entry card has only been refused by casinos (go figure) but they have always relented and accepted the Passport Card. It's Nexus for me, or the others mentioned. Federal ID that lets you fly and gets you into Congress and the White House should work for a hotel.
