Bonus #3. Why couldn't you make the clue an iconic
electric locomotive? That would make it easy to guess PRR with its iconic GG-1s:

The only iconic steam locomotives I can picture belonged to western railroads: UP's Big Boys, SP's cab forwards and Daylights and we know that the BAC One-Eleven operator was an eastern railroad.
Just throwing darts here now: New York Central.
Multimodal Bonus Question #3b - it's 1959 and you find yourself back in Chicago after taking NYC's stylish (by then diesel powered) 20th Century Limited, a bus to rural Indiana, and a stolen pick-up truck after narrowly avoiding death-by-crop-duster in an Indiana cornfield.
What's your departure airport, next destination and on what airline and aircraft will you be traveling?
