Well yes but there was high season for the last few years as well and still awards were available. This is the first year without virtually a single J class award seat out of Australia from the 13th of December. It's a new low for Krisflyers based in Australia as you have virtually no chance of redeeming a premium class award for the holidays even if you are super flexible with dates and plan one year ahead....I'm not saying that QF FF is any better....what I'm saying that this was never the case and one could at least redeem points with the right planning and flexibility (no flying on Fri to Sun etc). Seems like this is over now and there was no announcement or advance notice that they would basically introduce blackout periods
