Historically, these next four days are when the lowest airfares from North American gateways [EWR, ORD, DTW, DAL, LAX, SEA] to TYO [NRT, HND] should appear - 50 days in advance. Yet instead, flight costs are increasing. For the dates of Japan Do, this is when they should be the lowest.
My bot is still out there. But the cheap airfare is not appearing. I raise my eyebrows and ponder if the major airlines serving Tokyo survey FlyerTalk, and when they detect an assemblage of people wanting to travel to Tokyo, something in their airfare pricing programs specify to not provide any solid flight deals.
Hotels are also seemingly attempting to make up for three years of no foreigners occupancy by charging rates which would cause anybody not on an expense account [i.e.: Somebody else is paying for this] to perplex why should they go. {I typically stay at hostels. Were I to score a good flight deal now; I might well have to limit my hotel booking search to that.}
I want to travel to Japan in 2023. But at this moment (as exhaled above), I just don't think it will happen on April 6-9.
supply not meeting demand
definitely not a typical year
